INFLUENCE OF VARIABLE INJECTION PRESSURE ON PERFORMANCE EMISSION AND COMBUSITION CHARACTERSTICS OF CI ENGINE FUELLED WITH DIESEL/BLENDS OF JATROPA OIL BIO DIESEL WITH VARIABLE LOAD CONDITIONS AT CONSTANT INJECTION TIMING

Abstract

Abstract:- Due to its high thermal efficiency, good reliability, and sufficient and stable power, the diesel engine has been favored for a long time by the fields of the military, and in power plants, transportation, engineering machinery, and agricultural machinery. The aim of this present work is to test the performance parameters such as brake power (BP), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), and emission characteristics such as exhaust gas temperature (EGT), smoke parameters and combustion parameters like ignition delay, combustion duration and Start of combustion , end of combustion to be evaluated. Biodiesel as an alternative fuel derived from vegetable (green) oil or animal fats are oxygenated, biode-gradable, non-toxic and environmentally safe. Due to growing transport vehicle, other automobiles and industries there has been sharp increase in pollution level particularly CO2 causes global warming and other emissions like, HC, NOx, CO, and CO2 particulate matter and rate of pressure rise , heat release rate also to be evaluated. Accordingly, the vehicle manufacturing industries have to either redesign their vehicle such as combustion chamber for better combustion and efficiency. On the other hand, fossil fuels are exhausting and is also expected that it may be available less than 50 years at present rate of consumption. In this connection, Performance, emission and combustion characteristics of diesel engine operating with pure diesel(D100) and blends of Jatropa oil biodiesel B10, B20 biodiesel at 25%,50% and75%, 100% load conditions are to be evaluated and compared with the results at variable injection pressures of 200bar and 220bar and at an injection timing of 23°bTDC.Keywords: performance, emission, combustion, engine, injection pressure and timings etc.
