Abstract

Abstract: —In intelligent transportation system (ITS) identification of moving vehicles atnighttime is a necessary process. Theforemost step in monitoring the speedy vehicles on the highway is the detectionof vehicle. Vehicle identification is utilized to recognize the vehicles in anyvideo or picture record. The vehicle detectionmethod is used to calculate different traffic parameters suchas speed of vehicle, flow rate of traffic, required travelling time, volume,density, congestion levels. These vehicle detection methods can be applied forclassification, tracking and traffic monitoring at nighttime. By using vehicledetection traffic safety can be improved. Various nighttime vehicle detectionmethods have been proposed by researchers. Review of different techniques fordetection of vehicle using image processing is the main objective of this paperand also to provide brief study of these techniques.
